Top Kinesiology Tips!

See where a degree in kinesiology can take you. For a complete listing of courses that satisfy the Core Curriculum requirements, see Core Curriculum Component Area Requirements above. Curriculum is aligned with NSCA standards and prepares students for the Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam. This testing employs the strength or weakness of a muscle to get information about the organ that it is linked to, and the requirement of the body for a particular nutrient. Provocative tests are used along with muscle testing. The muscle testing employed is by holding the muscle in isometric contraction against resistance applied externally, rather than voluntary contraction against an immovable object. That may manifest objectively as a weakening of a single muscle. Goodheart and others have since observed that many conservative treatment methods improve neuromuscular function as perceived by manual muscle testing. Launch your career in a growing field — need for professionals in exercise science is expected to rise as hospitals and patients express a growing demand for exercise and nutrition as part of treatment and preventive care. As obesity and sedentary lifestyles continue to escalate nationally and globally, there is an increased need for Kinesiology-related careers.

The Department of Kinesiology offers programs of study to prepare undergraduate students for careers in a variety sports, fitness, and recreation environments that focus on promoting health for all people. Application of movement concepts evolves from an academic foundation and is covered by courses that study how movement is quantified, how learning experiences are sequenced to modify movement behaviors, and how movement is modified for special needs. It is a great foundation if you are pursuing a career as a coach or personal trainer. If you aspire to a career in physical education, you gain a better understanding of health and wellness to more effectively serve your students. Strengthen your understanding of this subject by closely examining topics that include muscular contraction, range of motion (ROM) and proprioception. A strong understanding of biomechanics, anatomy, physiology and psychology provide a basis for concentrations in education, exercise science and health science. You could work in a clinical environment creating exercise prescriptions for people with such health issues as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, or cancer; or in a research setting studying the effects of resistance training on strength and balance in older adults; or design training programs for professional athletes.

Students graduating from the program will be equipped to address issues in a global context, with the ethical standards of a Christian heritage. Advanced fundamentals of first aid that will include theory and demonstration of adult, child and infant CPR/AED and the first aid of the injured. Courses in the sport science concentration are focused on the fundamentals of athletics and sport performance, the psychological and social benefits of participating in sports and athletics, and leadership and mentoring. Recreation & Sports Management concentration students take additional courses in sport and recreation facilities management, sport and recreation marketing, management operations in sport and Piriformis Hip Pain RockTape exercise, and sport and recreation finance. Choose either the Exercise Science track or the Recreation Sport Management track. This degree is under their kinesiology department because physical educators in the program teach students the importance of exercise and how to their body the right way. This concentration prepares students to teach physical education in junior high and high school. This concentration will prepare you for careers in various public/private settings, college/university settings, non-profit health promotion agencies or to pursue graduate study in health promotion, health education or public health.

This concentration will prepare you to work in a wide range of enterprises that include clinical exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and commercial fitness facilities or pursue graduate education in kinesiology or exercise science. The primary focus of the kinesiology faculty is the education of students toward lifelong development of physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially fit human beings through physical activities. In this paper, we offer discourse on the historical plight and contemporary experiences of African American faculty in Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) programs at predominantly White institutions (PWI) of higher education. Our program is centered on the latest evidence-based research and the standards set by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The study of these majors include biomechanics and orthopedics; strength and conditioning; sport psychology; methods of rehabilitation, such as physical and occupational therapy, and sport and exercise. What can I do with this course of study? These «faculty-mentored undergraduate research» courses are sequential and progressive as denoted in their numbering (KINS 4960R, KINS 4970R, KINS 4980R) with the final course (KINS 4990R) being a capstone or thesis project course. Course provides the opportunity for students to improve their flexibility, muscular definition and endurance.
