The mission of the School of Kinesiology is to develop highly skilled graduate and undergraduate students who will be competitive in the job market based around core experiences that consists of: innovative instruction, exposure to cutting edge scholarship, and community engagement. Faculty members of the Kinesiology Department are committed to integrating community service into many aspects of research and teaching. Several faculty members have ongoing community programs, outreach, and research and often call on student-volunteers to help their operation. Sprinters tend to have more fast-twitch fibers in their muscles. If you aspire to a career in physical education, you gain a better understanding of health and wellness to more effectively serve your students. Recommended for health-related certificate programs, physical education, biology, pre-med, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary majors. Earning the certificate certifies that a student is proficient in both English and Spanish. Students must meet established testing requirements to progress into the student teaching or internship phase of the Teacher Education Program. The Kinesiology MOVCS Degree Audit (LionPATH: Academic Record) is the official student record for graduation purposes. If not completed prior to admission to the Teacher Education Program, the equivalent graduate-level courses can be added to a student’s academic plan for the credential program.
Students are strongly encouraged to complete the required tests prior to admission to the credential program. Graduates are eligible for the physical education teacher certification, which would allow them to serve as physical education teachers in Texas. Students who are interested in applying for admission to the Teacher Education Program should consult with their academic advisors and/or contact the Regional Enrollment Office prior to (2 or more semesters before) completion of their degrees. The musculoskeletal body structure and biomechanics necessary to more safely and successfully teach hatha yoga alignment based on the foundational principles of YogaFit’s Seven Principles of Alignment (SPA) are coached interactively. Physiological models are available. These options are Applied Fitness, Dance, Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Sport Studies. The Human Performance Laboratory is located in Williams Center 188 and provides teaching, research and service programs in exercise science with primary responsibility for the teaching of students in health, physical education, recreation, coaching and related areas.
The program offers seven areas of concentration — adapted physical education, biomechanics, exercise physiology, physical education pedagogy, sport and exercise psychology, and sport management. The Department of Kinesiology also offers two minors: coaching and physical education teaching. The Department of Kinesiology Taping for Back Pain offers programs of study to prepare undergraduate students for careers in a variety sports, fitness, and recreation environments that focus on promoting health for all people. The Department of Kinesiology also enjoys specialized facilities in Williams Center that include the Human Performance Laboratory, Motion Analysis Laboratory, Computer Laboratory and Dance Studio. Exercise scientist: Uses biomechanics, physiology, psychology and performance analysis to assess and improve an individual’s fitness, sporting performance and general health. Sport or Esports development officer: Coordinates club and athlete participation in sports programs and improves the performance of individuals and teams. In some cases, individuals are able to explore numerous lifetimes within their memory. Personal trainers work for gyms, sports complexes or as self-employed individuals to help individuals develop and achieve fitness goals. You will also develop the interpersonal skills to work with a broad range of patients.
The workouts will include a warm up, a series of arm and leg exercises using «Hydro-Fit» system apparatus, and a cool down. The cart also includes a Cardio-Card electrocardiography system, BIOPAC system and capabilities for measuring oxyhemoglobin saturation. The Human Performance Laboratory also has capabilities for exercise biochemistry that include a glucose and lactate analyzer, two UV/Vis spectrophotometers, water bath, analytical balance and related equipment to analyze blood and other tissues. Students may choose from two options: thesis and nonthesis. Two Minor programs (Coaching and Supplementary Authorization in Physical Education) are also available. Students with an interest in this degree area are encouraged to declare Kinesiology as their major. In their junior year, students lead strength and conditioning programs for area high school athletes. Sports or Esports coach: Provides expert training advice to athletes and analyzes their performance. Strength and conditioning coach: Prepares athletes for high performance, affording them the greatest advantage in competition. Certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and American Council of Exercise are respectable within the field. Graduates are also prepared for kinesiology-related graduate school programs.
