Karpin will deal with those who posted a video of themselves singing «Valera, Valera» in the locker room.
In an interview with RB Sport, Russian national team head coach Valery Karpin addressed a video in which he and his players sang «Valera, Valera» after defeating Slovenia (2: 1) in a 2022 World Cup qualifier. He did not agree to the footage being shown on the Internet, according to him.
— The sounds of «Valera» and your warning to the filmmaker: «Don’t release it» were yesterday’s most popular films from the national team’s locker room. Why were they so adamantly opposed to publication?
— We’ll figure out why they posted the video against my advice. I specifically told them not to spread the word.
— But, seriously?
— Taken very seriously. We travelled from Slovenia, and the clip had gone viral by the time we arrived.
— The video came with the statement «agreed with the head coach.»
— Absolute bullshit. It was advised that it not be made available. They most likely thought I was joking.
— Do you think the victory over Slovenia was little enough to justify such boisterous celebrations?
— The victory wasn’t spectacular, homepage and we weren’t overjoyed. Sure, we had a nice time, but it’s clear that this place isn’t remarkable. It’s not surprising that the song has been played in the films «Spartak,» «Rostov,» and «Armavir.» And within the national team, it was no longer a surprise.
On October 11, the Russian national team defeated the Slovenes in a 2022 World Cup qualification match in Maribor. Russian defenders Igor Diveev and Georgy Dzhikia both scored.
