In 1974 in San Diego, Calif.’s Mission Bay area, a group of runners, swimmers and cyclists who trained together at the San Diego Track Club put together some informal races to build up their endurance for their respective sports. Initially, the Trans-Am involved Group II production cars with wheelbases of 116 inches or less and engines of no more than 305 cubic inches. Chevy met this by entering the standard V-8 Camaro as a Group I sports car (over 305 cid) and the Z-28 option under Group II. Rule-bending aside, the Z-28 was a racer’s delight: heavy-duty suspension, power front-disc brakes, metallic-lined rear-drum brakes, 15 x 6 Corvette wheels mounting 7.75 x 15 tires, special hood with functional air intakes, close- or wide-ratio four-speed gearbox, and a new 302 V-8. New options, most often installed on Bel Airs, included power brakes ($38) and power front seat and front door windows ($86 for either).
Place a dot for the lock on the gas cap located behind the windows. Finish drawing the rear wheel well by placing a tiny line behind the rear tire. Even if you don’t get it right the first time, keep practicing until you’re happy with your drawing. Add thickness to each tire by drawing a short curved line from the base of the tire to the bottom of the body. Darken the sidewalls of the tires, the half circles in the wheels, and the lower half of the sideview mirror, Also blacken the top of the driver’s-side windows, part of the front grille, the front bottom edges of the car, and the thin rectangle in front of the windshield. Add a U-shaped figure to the bottom of this upright line to form the bumper. Add the windshield wipers as shown here. Here was a four-seater with no «I’m bigger than that» pretensions, which meant separate front seats, a proper gear-lever and central parking brake on the floor, but also genuine leather upholstery and carpeting instead of rubber mats. Add a curved line ahead of the front tire for part of the wheel well.
At the right end of this line, draw an upright line that has tiny spikes coming out of the top. Sketch a curved line from just behind the top of the front wheel to the back of the car. The top of the ski, where the boots attach, is known as the deck, like a skateboard. Rowing clubs and teams can be casual enthusiasts spending time outdoors while getting some exercise, or professional athletes participating in US Rowing national team qualifying events. The Jaguars cross country teams have been working hard in pre-season while getting ready for their first meet on August 28th at Maple Lake. When the ball is hit to the left side of the field, the shortstop can retrieve the ball while the second baseman covers second base. Because of the shape of a baseball field, the center fielder covers the largest amount of territory, so he has to be pretty fast.
The batter is out if a pop-up is caught by any of the fielders, the ball touches the post the batter is running to, or a fielder holding the ball touches him or her. This year’s top-of-the-line series took the Bel Air name from Chevrolet’s 1950-1952 hardtop coupe, which now became a Sport Coupe with two sedans and a convertible as running mates. Chevrolet replied with more chrome, a wider grille with more teeth, new taillights, brighter colors, new interior trims, and a fortified six running 115 horses with stickshift (same as that year’s 223-cid Ford six), or 125 with Powerglide (versus the Ford V-8’s 130). Finally, the Two-Ten Townsman was upgraded into a Bel Air, bringing the series up to five separate models. The latter version received aluminum pistons (replacing cast iron) and insert-type rod bearings plus a more modern, pressurized lubrication system. Lower-series offerings comprised sedans, pillared club coupe, and Handyman wagon, plus One-Fifty business coupe and Two-Ten Townsman wagon, convertible, and Sport Coupe. The no-frills Cadet was dropped, Kansas City Chiefs Merchandise so the line started with the base coupe, sedan, and wagon, all of which listed for about $500 less than the previous year’s Cadet.
