The surrounding landscape has been so well maintained it really does have picture perfect surroundings that you can enjoy even when you are not out on the golf course. We struggled with the elements but managed to have some good highlights & they were great company. They were great company & we had some laughs along the way. I finished with a just ‘respectable’ score after turning at the half way with 17 points. My highlight being the seventh hole when I was on the green for 3. Sunk a thirty foot putt to score 4 points after Helen encouraged me by commenting that I should putt like Adam Scott did yesterday. As I said yesterday — we had 22 volunteers of F-Troopers working at the club on Monday morning. Paul arrived back home yesterday for a two week holiday/work break. There were various reasons for the changes & we wish all of those players well in the future & hope they come back to Gosford for our visitors and social days and may eventually return again to Gosford. So what Lunsford did was to start bringing the tour to the players instead. The team, led by Duncan Dyer & his trusty chain saw, did the most impressive job of bringing down & removing a huge pine tree between the 13th & 7th fairways.
There are still some muddy patches & a lot of machinery & tyre damage on the fairways. It was still quite damp in places & it was hard to find balls in the ‘rough’ at times. The F-Troop have been hard at work trimming back the ‘rough’ which makes such a lot of difference to the game with wasted time looking for balls. We declared the tree absolutely dangerous — in windy conditions it would have collapsed. We saw some great features of nature out there today with some ‘magic fairy mushrooms’ on the 17th; and some tiny white flowers growing naturally behind the 17th green; and where else would you see fresh flowers on the loo in the «Bush toilet»; and we spotted the owl back in the tree on the 18th fairway. Second joint of your index finger all the way back to the base of your pinkie. I would like to think that none of our Members would be responsible for the theft of these flowers as we get such a positive response from the majority of people that play this course both Members and Non-Members and visitors from other areas. It is sad to think that there are people out there that feel comfortable with themselves after doing something like that. There was a lot of loose timber on the course today caused by the bad weather so we are calling on all our F-Troop volunteers to be out tomorrow to help our regulars with timber pick up along with other maintenance work that is required. That caused a lot of noise and distruption for a while.( I get excited about moments like this).
